Is English not your first language but you want to pursue your career in English-speaking countries? FACTOR is here to help our fellow foreign actors!
Here are some helpful tips for actors to get started with acting in English as a foreign language.
Spend as much time as you can learning the language.
This might seem obvious, but you need to know the language you're acting in to the level of being able to think in this language. Invest in English classes, individual coaching, or practice on your own by watching films and TV shows.
Learn International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). This will come in handy when working with accents and dialects. It's a meticulous and sometimes non-creative work, but trust me - it's worth it.
Get a pronunciation dictionary. This investment is a must for every foreign actor. For American English, I highly recommend the Longman Pronunciation Dictionary. With the help of IPA and this dictionary, you'll be able to look up words you're not sure how to pronounce.
Sign up for an English-speaking acting class. Nothing is better than practice - even if it's challenging at the beginning. At FACTOR we offer a variety of individual online classes that will target your specific needs. International actors are welcomed, we're an International Acting School for a reason!
